Lobi Traoré (1961-2010)
Last monday, in his hometown Bamako, the Malian guitarist/singer/songwriter Lobi Traoré passed away. It appears that he died due to heart faillure. Lobi was 49 years old, and leaves his wife and four children behind.
With his beatiful songs and swinging concerts fresh in our memory, we say goodbye to an unique artist, who contributed heavily with his characteristic sound to put Mali musically on the map.
He shall be missed....

Joep Pelt in South Africa!
Between April 30 and May 24 I will be roaming the musicscene of South Africa, in search of musicians and new musical input. This will amount in a radio documentary series for radio 6 and new recordings.
During my travels I will keep up a blog, which can be found at the site of radio 6. Hopefully, the digital highway will allow me to keep you posted as often as possible.
Excelsior Recordings Present: Joep Pelt "I'm Off!"
Next week my brand new cd "I'm Off!" will be released by Excelsior Recordings. On saturday April 17 there will be a release party at the Paradiso in Amsterdam, where I will play several songs of my new album. Show starts at 22:00.

Joep Pelt in Ethiopia
Between october 31 and november 15, Joep will be in Addis Ababa to check out the local music scene, meet musicians and to give a few workshops for local music talents. More news soon!

Tour U.S.A.
On his way to the SXSW Festival in Austin Texas, Joep will
play several shows in the U.S.A. On March 6th, Joep will play a
show at ‘Banjo Jim’s’ (New York), March 10th at 12 Galaxies (San
Francisco), and March 11th at Brainwash (San Francisco).
Joep’s concert at the SXSW festival will take place at Copa (217
Congress Avenue). Show starts at 9.00 pm.
Joep Pelt at SXSW
Between the 14th and the 18th of March Joep will play the
SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. An official showcase is sceduled on the 14th
at Copa, as well as several radio appearances. On his way to Texas, Joep
will play some shows in New York and San Francisco. Look at the 'gigs' page

Newsflash
On February the 2nd, Joep Pelt and Lobi Traoré will perform
on the main stage of the 'Festival du Niger' in Segou, Mali. This concert
will mark their official cassette release for Mali, under the Malian label
Mali K7. The 'Festival du Niger' also features artists like Toumani Diabaté,
Afel Bocoum Habib Koité and Oumou Sangaré. For more information visit the
